The autopsy of Assamese singer and icon Zubeen Garg, who died in a scuba diving accident in Singapore last week, will be conducted again in Guwahati on Tuesday ahead of his cremation, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Monday.
Speaking at a press conference, Sarma said the post-mortem examination of singer Zubeen Garg will be carried out at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) on the morning of September 23, with a doctor from AIIMS Guwahati also present during the procedure.

The chief minister also said Zubeen Garg’s mortal remains will be taken to GMCH at 7:30 am, and the examination is expected to take one to two hours. He added that the family has given their consent for the process. The procession will begin from the Arjun Bhogeswar Baruah Sports Complex in Guwahati.
All schools, colleges, and government offices in Kamrup district will remain closed. Zubeen’s wife Garima will join the funeral procession, while other family members will travel by bus.
Union Minister Kiren Rijiju will represent the central government, and Assam Police will act as pallbearers. The procession is expected to block the highway for four to five hours.
Zubeen Garg’s untimely demise
Renowned Assamese singer Zubeen Garg passed away at the age of 52 in Singapore after suffering a seizure while swimming at Lazarus Island last week. Earlier reports had incorrectly suggested that he died in a scuba diving accident. His sudden demise has left Assam and the wider music fraternity in deep mourning.
According to the death certificate issued by the Singapore authorities, the cause of death was confirmed as drowning while swimming. Addressing the media on Sunday, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said the certificate shared by the Singapore High Commission clearly lists drowning as the cause. He added that this differs from the post-mortem report, which the government is working to obtain “as soon as possible.”
“This is not a post-mortem report. The post-mortem report is different, and the death certificate is different. We will send the documents to CID. The Chief Secretary of the Assam Government is contacting the Singapore Ambassador to get the post-mortem report as soon as possible,” he said as quoted by news agency ANI.
